Ho hum, another month in the books. Firstly, some personal stuff, i was strongly considering dropping out of uni (2nd year mech eng) and going pro as a poker player. However, since i 've been back in leeds i've been reinspired to finish the course for a few reasons, i think i've realised how much i enjoy the uni life and i even enjoy the work (to an extent) though primarily i think it's because i have some really good mates up here and quite a few are on my course. That has motivated me to put some work in and although it's going to take a ton of effort to get a first i think it'll be worth it as i'll be done in like 20 months and it's something that no one can ever take away from me.
Obviously being a winning poker player has a lot of positives but i just feel that right now i can work really hard at uni and still develop as a poker player albeit a bit slower than if i were pro. I would like to think that come june 2009 i'll be leaving with a top class degree from a very good university and have alot of money from poker which would really be a great way to enter the 'real world' so to speak.
Anyway to this months poker results, i think i definitely played poorly in parts this month due to another attempt at 6 tabling which i just cant do successfully. I played 55 hours in september which really isnt enough especially considering i was just chillin at home for half of it.
I ran kinda bad when all in again but nothing too horrendous.
I am pretty happy with my progress as it stands. My aim was to be playing NL400 by now but the reason i am still playing NL200 is because i've had to cash out a ton from my bankroll because of problems with my student loans. I am 100% i can beat NL400 for a good rate.
As far as the next few months are concerned i am just going to try to play 30k hands a month and keep studying and progressing with my game and i still want to be at NL1000 by christmas. Although i'll be pretty happy with beating NL400 for £100+ per hour :) but who knows
have a good one

Heater!!!!
First things first, NEW TV! It's a sharp 42inch 1080p and is so sick especially with the ps3. It's so fucking heavy though. I don't really need it but it was just to reward myself for the hard work i've put into poker so far.
Had a 10k breakeven stretch last week which is super standard but can still grind on your nerves a bit. On a sick heater at the moment though so can't and won't complain. Below is the last 5 hours of poker i've played, i've been taking shots at NL400 and have been running like god which is of course always great when you are moving up stakes. To be honest it has really been a great summer and i think i am up around $16k since july 11th including rakeback which i am delighted with. My only regret is not getting away and doing enough but most of that was due to my resit exam so it's my own fault anyway.
Really want to keep plodding away at NL400 and get to NL1000 by christmas and i feel as though i am on course though i can't get complacent and must continue to work hard.
Hope to go back to Canada around christmas and maybe stay for a while and possibly go to Thailand for a few months aswell. Also want to go on some climbing courses next year even though i am a complete punter/n00b.
Best wishes
Fletch

Taking a few days off
Really feel like i could do with a few days off from poker and going out on the piss a bit as i've spent the last 9 days on a fitness binge/ poker grind so i could really do with chilling. I want to play 9k hands by sunday and i've played 3k hands so far this week so i just need to put in 2k hands a day friday-sunday which will be tough but at my current rate it should net me around $2k. Which is ideal as i am buying a big arse HDTV next week (i'll post pics once i've decided on one)
haha i realise that's not a great read but my head is fucked at the moment and i need to go to bed
goodnight

A new start
First of all just catch up on a few things. My exam resit went quite well but i am not sure what i am going to do, pass or fail. Had a great time in leeds and had some friends from traveling visit for the weekend in our new house and we had a proper laugh, In the end it was 4 straight days on the piss so i felt shitty afterwards but it was awesome to see everyone.
poker has been going very well and this is my august so far
haven't play many hands due to my exam and just general moving around. my hourly rate is around $110 (£55) which is pretty nuts considering it's tax free and i'd earn about a 10th of that doing some shitty summer job.
Planning on grinding from now until i go back to uni which will be around sep 17th, i am not setting myself any real targets but hopefully i'll get in a ton of hands. I've also been running everyday for the last week which has been great and i want to lose as much of my belly as i can before uni as i am sick of it, i mean i have never really been fat per se but just always had this stupid fucking podge belly.
Got my ps3 and new HDTV arriving this week too which will be sick and i need to start shopping for a new snowboard set up as i want to get in a ton of riding this winter. Holla
I'll probably keep this more up to date aswell
Peace
Edit: forgot to say, i got sucked out on in my biggest post every today :(

Anyway, August has been very kind to me to this point, definitely been running good but also playing well. Hopefully i can be at NL400 by the end of this month.

Solid Day
Had a pretty solid day today and i really felt as though i needed it considering how poorly yesterday went and how awful my level of play was.
Lost focus for an hour or so whilst playing earlier but managed to pull myself together after i had a cup of tea. I honestly believe that the greatest challenge to an online poker player is focus, reproducing your best game every day is something very few if any players achieve. You see players who stuggle with huge breakeven stretches and downswings and often they'll tell you that they are just running bad and they are unlucky blah blah blah but in 95%+ of cases the player has let his focus slip and has been too busy wallowing in his bad streak rather than treating every hand as a new hand and trying to play to the best of his abilities.
Below is my graph since the 11th of this month (when i actually started playing). I am very pleased with the results and hope that i can continue to reproduce this throughout the summer.

Crap
Bah, stuck something like $600 today. I got coolered for about half of that and the other half was just bad play. I keep telling myself to not become complacent because of how well things have been going, but i have and i am disappointed in myself.
Going for some beers tonight so i won't be playing but tomorrow is back to serious study and hard work. Also have to revise maths aswell for a resit.
Played golf the past 2 days and i have been absolutely shit haha. Think i will hire a swing coach to help me out next week as it is awful at the moment

Great Weekend!
My weekend
Hasn't really sunk in yet how great this weekend has been. I managed to surpass my target by $800 and did so in about half as many hands as i expected.
Below is the biggest pot i won. I feel i played it pretty well though in reflection i think that if i raised the flop slightly larger then he would've been committed to call the the river but meh, whatever, i'll just keep that in mind for next time . Note: this was against a complete maniac who i eventually took just over $1k from

As if i didn't know it already this weekend has really hammered home the importance of patient/good table selection. If you can pick up the prime seats and run semi-good you can make a ton of money.
These are my stats since the 11th of this month
At my old temp job i worked 2 summers ago that would be around 14 weeks wages at about 36 hours a week so it feels absolutely insane to take that down in just 11 days :)
In other news, I have an engineering mathematics resit exam in mid august which is a bit rubbish, there's no one to blame though it's my own fault though for being too lazy the first time around. After that though as a gift to myself for all the hard work i've put into poker i am going to buy a ps3 and this.
I figure that if i buy that then i won't need a new tv for 6-7+ years.
I think i'll take tomorrow off and play some golf.
Peace

Pain in the arse
weird kinda day today, i am only up something like $74 but i ran terribly and it could have been so much worse.
below is my EV graph, the red line (sklansky bucks) is what i would have won if there were no luck in poker and the green line is what i actually won, it sucks, but that is all part of the game and i can't complain. There are days when my winnings would be on the other side of that line and i could be up $2k.
Got some new kicks aswell
Going to try and play a ton this weekend, and like i said in yesterdays post i am aiming for a $1.4k profit. I think i'll take a couple of days off after that though as i'll be pretty burned out, maybe go to berlin for the day or something random like that

Quiet Day
Been out shopping today for some clothes and stuff and was also a good excuse to get out of the house for a while.
Played just now for about 30 minutes and ended up stuck a buy in ($200). Not too bothered really as i was far from being completely focused and it could have been worse if a few donks didn't donate me a few hundred dollars. I got coolered a bit in one hand where i stacked off against a donk with AK against his AA and in another hand i laid down AA with 3 players in the pot but if i hadn't have folded i would've taken it down for something like $400 but whatever. At all levels of poker it is of course important to be focused when you're playing but i think NL200 is where it really becomes necerssary if you want to show a good profit just because of how aggro the games are and all the moves that are being made.
i wanted to get these shoes today but they didn't have any that fit my clown size feet so i'll have to try and get them off ebay or something
probably won't get much playing done tomorrow and i'll be out in the evening most likely but i am aiming for a $1.4k weekend. lets gogogogogo

Playing Well, Running Well
I know it has been a while but I've just been busy traveling about and busy with the matter of turning 21. Below is my progress since last wednesday (the 11th). I have cut down from 6 tables to 4 tables and so far i couldn't be happier. playing 4 tables just lets you focus so much more and really think about your play and of course the lower variance is also a bonus.
It can be difficult getting a decent amount of hands in though but that's to be expected. I hope to be playing about another 15k hands at NL100 before moving up to NL200. My goal is to be comfortably rolled and comfortably beating NL400 by the end of this summer.

First 2 days at NL100
A successful start to my time at NL100. When moving between NL25 and NL50 i think i took a few shots due to not playing well and not running well but its been the opposite with NL100 :)
The only big difference i have found between NL50 and NL100 is the increase in 3betting but i feel quite comfortable with my ranges and think i am making far more mathematically correct decisions than my opponents. However, I certainly made some mistakes myself so i cant be complacent and must keep on top of my game.
Also, made a $100 bet yesterday for arsenal to finish ahead of spurs at even money with VaVavoom of 2+2. Free money is always nice

First Shot at Blogging
Hello, my name is fletch, i am a budding poker player aswell as a uni student studying mechanical engineering.
After reading many well known poker blogs lately i have decided to start one of my own. It seems like a great way to monitor poker progress and articulate you thoughts among other things and that can't be bad a thing. I am going to commit to this blog and make a post on any day that i play over 2k hands.
Quick History: Returned from a years of travels as a broke student in july 06, spent some of my last money on the HOH series and deposited ~$60 dollars and started building my empire through single table donkaments whilst making some posts on 2+2. Screwed around with that for a while then around march 07 i took up cash games, signed up to cardrunners and began to take poker seriously.
Fast forward to now, I have a 1.8k roll and am currently playing $50NL on FTP and party though i hope to be playing $100NL very soon.
I'll go into more tomorrow i just don't want to make this post too long.
Here's my graph from today, kinda swingy and i lost focus later on in the day which i am disappointed in myself for but managed to recover to some extent.
After reading many well known poker blogs lately i have decided to start one of my own. It seems like a great way to monitor poker progress and articulate you thoughts among other things and that can't be bad a thing. I am going to commit to this blog and make a post on any day that i play over 2k hands.
